Sixth Time is Sweet for St. Francis
The dominance continued, as St. Francis High School of Sacramento won its
sixth straight NCGA/CIF Girls High School Championship on Monday at Butte Creek
CC.
While the trophy was being awarded, one player summed it up by saying
under her breath, �Why don�t they just let them keep the trophy?� St. Francis
shot a 326 in the format that takes the four best scores out of six to win by 13
shots.
The Troubadours were led by senior Danielle Nash and junior Casey Gee
with 78s, followed by junior Hilaire Fouts' 80 and junior Michelle Cronan�s
90.
�I wanted them to play well and they really did,� said first-year coach
Denise Larson. �We had a couple of clutch performances and it was perfect. It
came out exactly how we would have hoped.�
Coming in second was Foothill High School of Pleasanton with a 339, led
by Jill Womble�s 81, Kim Tilton�s 82 and Jenny Nelson�s 84.
There was a tie between Bella Vista High School and Pleasant Valley High, both carding a 346. The tie was broken by the fifth player's score on each team and Bella Vista took third alone.
Individual honors went to Kim McCready of Union Mine after shooting an
incredible 2-under-par 70. Four strokes back was Alexis Edwards of Deer Valley,
firing a 74. Julianna Uhrik of Modesto shot a 75 to place third and Kristen
Nichols of Rocklin took fourth with a 77.
