OPEN DIVISION DIVISION I DIVISION II DIVISION III DIVISION IV DIVISION V

The format was changed with the addition of an open division. The top eight teams, as determined by a selection committee, are entered the open division (No more than four teams can be from the same league and no more than three from the same enrollment division). All eight teams are assured of at least  two games as consolation brackets will determine most final positions. Irregardless of their finish in the section playoffs, all eight teams qualify for the Northern California tournament. The eight schools in the Open Division this year are Mitty, Serra, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Riordan, Palo Alto, Piedmont Hills, El Camino and Soquel, seeded in that order. After these eight teams were determined, the other 74 qualifying teams were divided into five divisions,  based on enrollment. Teams seeded 5 through 8 received byes into the second round and seeds 1-4 received byes into the quarterfinals.   Divisions I through III had 16 teams each, Divisions IV had 14 and Division V had 12 teams. Bellarmine was seeded No. 1 in Division I, Westmoor in Division II, St. Ignatius in Division III, Seaside in Division IV and Alma Heights in Division V.
