2001 GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS--DIVISION III

jump shot with 1:31 left in the game gave Sacred Heart Cathedral the lead for
good, as the Irish hung to beat league rival St. Ignatius 47-45 to claim the
Girls� Central Coast Section Division III title. It�s the second
straight title won by the Irish. Tessa Moon, who led all scorers with 17
points, boosted the Sacred Heart lead to 46-43 with 1:11 left in the game. But
St. Ignatius would not go away. Jacquelyn Hontalas sank a short-range jumper
with 56.1 seconds left. After Sacred Heart�s Toni Russell sank free throw with
20.5 seconds, the Wildcats had several chances to tie the score. But a
game-tying shot would not fall. Russell added 13 points for Sacred
Heart. Sunne Smith scored 12 points to lead St. Ignatius.
