  • ALERT!!!!The attached fall boys basketball tournament has not been approved by CIF as advertised in the attached flyer. The CIF and CCS do not approve outside organization's programs. Any participation in this tournament by high school teams would be a violation of CIF and CCS rules.
  • ALERT!!!! The attached flyer from Ballin Ambassadors includes a high school team tournament that is held after the end of summer and in which, no CCS high school team may participate for such a program would be in violation of our starting and ending dates. Remember according to the new rule, summer ends July 31 and then all CCS rules, in this case, season of sport rules apply after that time until summer begins at the end of the 2010-2011 school year. (See CCS Bylaws, Article V for a complete copy of those rules.) The other two tournament dates conform to summer in which schools may choose to participate as a school team or not since CIF/CCS rules do not restrict participation in such activities durring the summer (2nd Saturday in June-July 31).
  • ALERT!!!!The attached summer soccer program has not been approved by CCS as advertised in the attached flyer. CCS does not approve outside organization's programs. Those member schools who received this flyer misrepresenting CCS's involvement in this program, which is no involvement, endorsement, approval or anything else, should be receiving a corrected flyer soon.

Subject: Area Code Basketball Games

While the particular event referred to in the message below involves only Northern California Area Codes, this email was sent to all Section Commissioners as the event language referenced that Northern California was selected as the first site for this future national event.

This email pertains to an event entitled, "Area Code Basketball Challenge" that is supposed to take place at El Cerrito High School on May 22-23, 2010. The event material reads in part, "Teams are selected by identifying the best twelve (12) representative players regardless of class from an Area Code." Based on this language, it is our belief that this is an all-star competition as per 900.D.(2) and (3).

I spoke with the event organizer, Mr. Carl Foster, re: this matter. If Section Commissioners in the North would please notify your member schools that their 9-11 grade student-athletes should not participate in this event, we would appreciate it.

Thank You,Ron Nocetti, CAA, Ed.D.
Senior Director California Interscholastic Federation
